Women and Community
Working to empower women and girls has been a backbone of activity with the Team for all the years of our lives.
Gender equity is a fundamental human right. It is a necessary foundation “…for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world …” notes the United Nations in their Sustainable Development goals. Pay equity, access to equal education, and equal representation are just three of the principles that outline work that has been completed over the years.
The economic impact of achieving parity is profound. One dollar invested nets exponential returns, both for the communities at large and for a Nation’s gross domestic standing. Research notes that lost wages over a lifetime accrue into the millions for women (which directly impacts families) and goes on to further note that we are leaving more than $500 billion off the table which could be included in US GDP if women were paid equally.
Simply put, investing in women means that we invest in the communities in which they live.
